“Ask Copilot” is coming to your Taskbar (but only if you want it to)

Ever wish your computer just knew what you wanted, instead of making you dig through menus and search results?

Microsoft is working on that.

In the latest Windows 11 preview, there’s a new feature being tested called Ask Copilot. It sits right on your taskbar and aims to make things much easier.

Right now, searching from the Windows taskbar just brings up a list of files, apps, and settings.
Ask Copilot is changing that. The search box will use AI to understand what you need and guide you to the right spot, or even do the job for you.

For example, try typing “open the invoice template I used last month,” “connect to the projector,” or “how do I split this PDF?”
Instead of just showing a list, Copilot can open the file, change the setting, or give you a quick answer.

It’s like the search you’re used to, but smarter and more helpful.

You’ll also notice new icons next to Ask Copilot, giving you one-click access to Copilot Vision (for on-screen content) and voice commands (for when you’d rather talk than type).

If you’re not sure about all this AI, no worries. Ask Copilot is opt-in. You have to turn it on in your Settings (under Personalization > Taskbar > Ask Copilot). If you leave it off, your regular search stays the same.

Microsoft also says Copilot does not get any extra access to your data. It uses the same tools as Windows Search, and it’s not looking through your private files.

So, what’s in it for your business?
It’s all about saving time and keeping your team focused. Instead of getting lost searching or adjusting settings, Copilot helps you get things done in seconds.

It’s another step toward making workdays smoother and more productive.
Ask Copilot is still in testing, but we’ll likely see it roll out soon.

Would you give Ask Copilot a try, or stick with classic search for now? The choice is yours.
