Let’s be honest, when was the last time you forgot a password and ended up stuck in that endless cycle of “reset your password” emails?
It’s one of the most common headaches at work. But there’s good news. This might finally be changing.
Microsoft just announced that passkeys can now sync across your devices with your Microsoft Account in Edge.
Not sure what passkeys are? They’re a password-free way to log in. Instead of typing out a long password, you use your device’s security, like Face ID, fingerprint, or a PIN, to prove it’s really you.
This system uses the FIDO2 standard, which means your login info is tied directly to your device. No passwords to steal, and no phishing tricks to worry about.
The only catch used to be that passkeys were saved on just one device. If your laptop died or you got a new computer without backing them up, you could lose access to your accounts.
Now, with Microsoft’s update to Edge, that problem is solved. Your passkeys can be stored securely in the cloud, protected by your Microsoft Account and an extra PIN with Microsoft Password Manager.
That means you can sign in to any Windows 11 PC with your account and your passkeys will be right there with you. No more lockouts and no more panic.
Worried about security? Microsoft encrypts your passkeys in the cloud and uses several layers of protection. It is just as safe as keeping them on your own device, but way more convenient.
This is a simple but important upgrade. Fewer passwords mean fewer resets, less support, and less risk from weak passwords or phishing. And for your team, it is one less thing to remember.
Passkeys are rolling out now for Windows 11, with Mac and mobile support coming soon. Next time you see “Save as passkey” in Edge, give it a try. It could make your life a lot easier.
