New: You decide what Copilot remembers

How much do you want AI to remember about you?

That is a question Microsoft is starting to answer with a big new update to Copilot.

Up until now, Copilot has been handy for quick tasks like summarizing text, drafting emails, or answering questions. But it has not really remembered much about you from one session to the next.

Every time you started a new task, it felt like introducing yourself all over again. That made it tough for Copilot to feel truly personal or helpful on a deeper level.

Now, that is starting to change.

Microsoft is adding memory management to Copilot, giving you more control over what it remembers. You can tell Copilot to “remember this,” and soon you will have a dedicated memory management page where you can see exactly what is stored. You can edit or delete those details whenever you want.

In other words, Copilot can build up useful context about you and your business, but you always stay in control of what it keeps and what it forgets.

Why does this matter?

Imagine the time you could save if Copilot remembered how your team writes reports, the names of your key clients, or your preferred proposal formats. Instead of repeating the same information, you could let Copilot handle the details so you can focus on your work.

And if anything changes, such as a client’s details or your preferred style, you can quickly update or clear that memory.

There is another helpful update on the way too: Connectors.

Copilot already connects to OneDrive, and soon it will work with Google Drive as well. That means you will be able to ask Copilot to fetch documents, summarize files, or pull insights from your storage, all without opening each file one by one.

Microsoft plans to add more services over time, making it easier for businesses to work with all their information in one place.

These new features are rolling out on the web, Windows 11, and mobile devices. Some will be free, while others may be part of Copilot’s paid tier in the future.

Copilot is moving towards being a smarter, more personal assistant that learns from you, while you remain in control.

That balance is important.

The more Copilot can remember, the more helpful it becomes. And because you decide what it keeps, you get the benefits of a smarter assistant without giving up control.
