Is data security your top priority?

Here's an interesting disconnect happening in businesses right now.

Nearly seven in ten IT leaders say data security is their number one concern when upgrading or modernizing systems. Yet only around a third feel confident they'd pass their next regulatory audit.

That's a significant gap. And it's worth understanding why.

Sound familiar?

You might not describe what your business does as "modernizing hybrid infrastructure," but that's effectively what's happened over time.

Cloud software added here. Microsoft 365, a CRM, cloud accounting, file sharing platforms. Older systems or servers that have been around for years still running alongside them.

That mix is completely normal. But it's also where things get complicated.

When data lives in multiple places, simple questions become harder to answer.

✅ Who has access to what?

✅ How does information move between systems?

✅ Are old platforms still holding sensitive data?

✅ Are access permissions still accurate?

Day to day, everything feels fine. The team logs in. Emails get sent. Files get shared. But underneath, complexity quietly builds up.

There's more pressure in the background too.

The research also found that more than half of organizations are struggling to find people with the right skills to manage today's technology properly. That makes it harder to feel fully in control, even when things appear to be running smoothly.

And then there's AI. Many businesses are exploring AI tools to improve efficiency and streamline processes, which can be a genuinely positive step. But AI depends on clean, well-managed data. If the foundations aren't solid, adding AI can amplify existing problems rather than solve them.

The good news?

The core question here isn't whether security matters. Everyone agrees it does. The real question is whether your current setup has kept pace with how your business has evolved.

Could you clearly explain where your sensitive data lives? Are access rights still accurate for how your team works today? Would an external audit feel manageable rather than stressful?

If any of those questions give you pause, it's usually a sign the foundations need some attention.

That's exactly where we can help. Let's connect.
