Teams update: No more accidental quitting

Have you ever accidentally left a Teams meeting?

You go to click Share to present your screen, and suddenly you're staring at your desktop while everyone else is still mid-conversation.

For a long time, that was a perfectly believable excuse. The Quit button in Microsoft Teams has caught out plenty of people, especially in fast-paced meetings where you're clicking quickly between controls.

Microsoft has finally decided to fix it.

Here's what's changing.

The Quit option is moving away from the main cluster of meeting controls and into the system tray, that small area near the clock on your Windows taskbar. The idea is simple: put it somewhere you're far less likely to click by accident.

If you use the desktop version of Teams, you should already see the change. There's nothing your IT team needs to switch on.

It won't eliminate every misclick. If you're aiming for Share and catch Leave instead, you could still drop out. But there's a setting that helps with that too.

Inside Teams, go to Settings, then General, and turn on the confirmation prompt before leaving a meeting. That extra "Are you sure?" step can save you from disappearing at exactly the wrong moment.

One more update worth knowing about.

Microsoft is also rolling out the option to hide the meeting toolbar during calls, giving you more screen space and fewer distractions while presenting.

The good news? Neither of these changes requires anything from your IT team. They're small updates, but the kind that reduce daily friction and make virtual meetings feel a little more polished.

And if you've ever vanished mid-sentence from an important call, you now have one less excuse.
